What this site
knows about you.

Written from the code, not from a template.

Everything below describes what this site actually does. Where a practice is not as tidy as it should be, it says so rather than reaching for a comfortable phrase.

Not yet reviewed by a lawyer

This notice is accurate about our engineering, and it has not been through legal review. It is published so the site stops making claims it cannot point at, and it will be replaced by a reviewed version. If you need a data processing agreement or a formal record of processing before you can talk to us, email hello@functory.io and we will deal with it directly.

What we collect

Analytics
We use PostHog to understand how the site is used. It records page views as you move between pages, and errors the site throws, together with the device and browser information PostHog attaches to an event. If analytics is not configured, or you block it, the site works exactly the same.

Campaign attribution
If you arrive from a link carrying utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, utm_content, gclid or fbclid, we keep those values, along with the site that referred you and the page you landed on. They are stored in your own browser under the key functory:attribution, not on our servers, and the first touch is discarded after 90 days. A copy is held for the current tab so a form knows where you came from.

What you send us
The consultation and platform walkthrough forms ask for your name, work email, company, role, team size or company stage, what you need help with, your timeline, and anything you choose to write in the open field. You decide what goes in that field.

Recorded with a submission
When a form is submitted, our endpoint also records the IP address the request came from, your browser's user agent string, the origin the request was sent from, and the time. Any attribution stored in your browser is sent along with it.

Where it goes, and for how long

Form submissions
Stored in a DynamoDB table in our own AWS account, and emailed to us so we can reply. No TTL is currently set on that table, which means submissions are kept until we delete them by hand. We are not comfortable calling that a retention policy, and it is on the list to fix.

Analytics
Sent to PostHog, on the regional host configured for this site. PostHog processes it on our behalf under their own terms.

Server logs
The function behind the forms writes logs to AWS CloudWatch, retained for 30 days and then deleted automatically.

What we never do
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising. The only reason we hold what you send is to have a conversation with you about your project.

What you can do
01
Drop the attribution
Clearing site data for this domain in your browser removes it. Nothing on our side depends on it.

Turn off analytics
Browser settings, tracking protection or an ad blocker will stop it. We do not treat that as a reason to degrade the site.
03
Ask us what we hold
Email hello@functory.io and we will tell you what a search of our table returns for your address, send you a copy, or delete it. We would rather you asked than wondered.
